Just beautiful work filming this.... The music is the best, which is nothing less than Danny would perform....a true master....along with the band....
Sasha my Friend R.I.P. I hope that some day all of your great videos can be available because you capture the Pittsburgh scene as well as so many Blues greats that have played in the Burgh.
Mike Sweeney on bass
I got all his albums and the Root 6 cd. This is great!
When I was about 12 or 13 years old my brother took me to a concert because he was a guitar player and he knew I was learning to play. The concert was Roy Buchanan Dickey Betts and Lonnie Mack. It pretty well blew my mind and made me a fan for life and a more dedicated guitar player
The sax guy blows DG off the stage
Where Da Sharks, He built a regional name for himself in the upper Ohio Valley and Pittsburgh of course where they based from.
Where Da Sharkies
Mr. Telecaster. Thank you.
Some of the BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE were seeing Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band in Richmond, Va in the mid '80s...and he still owes me money 😂
you can feel the love
Out of Gravel came The Corbin Hanner Band and how sweet was the combination of Bob and Dave who composed so many #1 hits for Country artists. Great musicians and greater people.
If I was walking outside and heard this I'd crawl through the sewage pipe to get inside!! That's if they'd sold all the tickets of course...I mean ..if they hadn't, I'd get a ticket and go through the door. How can you even quantify how good this is?
From the first note you know it’s Kim. And every note that follows you have to be floored knowing that it’s a move Little Walter invented 65 years ago.
Bill Holloman used to play sax in New England's best band back in the 1980s, The B. Willie Smith Band. On his website for whatever reason he doesn't acknowledge the band. Their guitarist, Steve Baldino, was the only guitarist I've ever seen that could be compared to the great Danny Gatton. Two masters of the guitar.
He could flat pick a guitar awsome 😅
Epic. What else can one say ?
What a great band, the sax player is outstanding, keyboards Vocals what a talent he is. If Danny could sing he could've ruled the world.
I miss seeing Shari every weekend, wherever she was. First (as far as I knew) with Force Field, then on her own (ish). She has more talent in her pinky than i have in me whole body. ✌❤🙏

2023...this will never get old!
Saw him on consecutive nights (Bos/Prov) around this time. The net wasn’t really prevalent yet, so I only knew him by word-of-mouth and what I’d read…neither of which prepared me for what I witnessed. I worked at the Boston club, and there were a few of us hanging around who got to check out the afternoon soundcheck, had a nice conversation with him afterwards. On both occasions he was opening for the Radiators, these are among my favorite shows ever. A few months (years?) later, the Thursday insert in the Boston Globe reviewed “The Humbler” and included an 800 number to buy it. I called and a woman answers the phone with kind of a gruff “Hello”. Immediately I’m “oh I’m sorry I think I must have the wro…”, but she interrupted me… “you looking for the Danny Gatton album?” Me: “yeah, but…” Her: “Let me grab a pen”. It was Danny’s mom Norma, we too ended up having a nice talk. Moral: Sometimes you get a really kick-ass album if you just call a dude’s mom and ask nicely! 😉
Got to open for Lonnie in early 80's. Remember being disappointed that he was playing thru a Roland Jazz Chorus instead of a Magnatone. As soon as he started playing I forgot all about the missing Maggie! Had Tim Drummond on bass and maybe Stan Szelest on keys (?). All real nice cats driving themself on tour in an RV! Also it appears to me that in this video Lonnie is tuned down to D. Interesting...maybe so the keys weren't so much of a strain on his vocals. Not only a killer guitarist but a great vocalist! I'm fortunate to have acquired a live tape of Lonnie in 1962 with James Thomas on sax and vocals! One of the nicest stars I've met in my 4+ decades in the music "business"!
To bad all the idiots were busy loud talking at this bar , missed a great show
The keyboard, sax player is also a good singer. His intonation is excellent.
✌️🎤🎸🎹🎧🙏
Too pretentious
is intoxicating)))
Hey Sasha, about 18 seconds in, the video says it was recorded in 1994, but the RUclips title says it was 1990. Kinda curious as to which it was. Also, I appreciate these posts, thanks.
I seen Derek when he was 12 at Skippers Smoke House Tampa Fl. Always hitting the note!!!
I went to a fight once and a Lonnie Mack concert broke out 14:50
I first saw Lonnie circa 1990 at the 2nd annual Bayfront Bluesfest in Duluth. Wasn't too familiar,I knew his rep as a good guitar man but had him pegged as more country. We wondered why he was the fest headliner weekend capper with Buddy Guy playing in front of him instead of the other way around with Buddy's rep for guitar flash and excellence. I had never seen Buddy live in person either at that time so of course he really blew us away with his set and he was instantly my new guitar hero. Well he had the crown for about an hour. First and only time in my life I crowned a new personal guitar hero king and dethroned him in the same night. We were back in the parking lot having a beer between sets when Lonnie started up his set with "Riding the Blinds". The famous flying V#007 sound hit me like a lightning bolt and I dropped my beer and was magnetically jerked almost at dead run back into the stage area where I witnessed a life changing set from a guitar sound that I couldn't liken to anything except Albert King (who I had seen many times) just because of the sheer unmatchable power of it. After a couple hours Lonnie dedicated the closer to Roy Buchanan, whose death was still very fresh in our minds, and exploded the fireworks on "Cincinnati Jail". My mind was blown and it was very obvious why Lonnie was the closer. Nobody could have mounted a meaningful show after the depth and breadth of the material and the skill we had just witnessed!
hot damn now that is an good ole fashion blues club night with cold beer, hot wings, amazing music, pussy all over the place and to top it off a good ole bar room fight...dam I miss those days...
My buddy Glenn Pavone, the best
Miss you, Old friend . Robert Keith Boyd. May you RIP.
Unbelievable killer Danny the man
Would love to see the rest of this concert!
Lonnie was (and still is) one of my all-time guitar heroes. I never thought I'd get to see him play live, but many years ago, he came to play at the Colne Blues Festival (Lancashire). Years later, I was searching through a rack of LPs during a sale in an HMV store in Leeds and came away with several of his recordings. They're all still with me, as are memories of seeing him play. It's interesting that Jeff Beck cited Lonnie as a major influence. During his life, he played several of Lonnie's tunes - either solo or with others such as SRV.
I absolutely love this. It may be a tribute to Lonnie Mack but it is equally a tribute to Dumpy Rice and the great friendship those two had. They sound so great together on this. I would have loved to hear / see this entire show. It must have been incredible based on what you have shared with us here. Thank you very much for posting it !
Sorry to say he camera work on this Sucked !
👏👏👏 genio Danny !!!
Came for Danny, but stayed for Shannon. Phew!
These videos are great! What a blast from the past. RIP Glenn, you were a beast on guitar. Sorely missed...
Absolutely a beauty of a song...Whitey really pours it ON! YES! ;!>
More proof that Gatton was one of the greatest to ever strap on a guitar. Sax man is a beast too!
Gary and Sasha….both gone. RIP.
Lonnie Mack redefined what it meant to be a BADASS!!! RIP!!!
Huge guitar influence in my life!! On my 21st birthday my parents took me to the Slippery Noodle in Indianapolis to see Lonnie. Just before the show I go to the men’s room and as I’m standing at the urinal a scruffy redneck comes in and uses the urinal next to me. I glance out the side of eye and realize it’s Lonnie. Just about wizzed all over the floor. Lol! Made it back to my see and Lonnie just walks up on stage and proceeds to blow my mind. I learned more that night than I could ever tell. Fast forward 10yrs and I end up playing in a band that shared the bill with Lonnie and friends at a blues festival. Was like going back to school…man was blessed with some serious soul! Don’t believe he ever received the true credit he deserved but I’m also not too sure he would’ve had it any other way. RIP Lonnie and God bless his family!
The best Guitar player on the Pittsburgh scene for sure .
Tuff enuff...... Real tuff... Any relation to . Rita . Pavone??????
